Collins High School Students to Become Published Authors
Trades Academy Juniors

Collins Career Technical Center is thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of our junior and senior students who participated in the Fright Club Young Writers contest! With the support and guidance of Mrs. Hollie Bowman, 11th and 12th-grade English students from the Trades Academy unleashed their creativity, crafting eerie short stories with the chance to have their work published.

A Spine-Tingling Writing Challenge

The Fright Club contest, hosted by Young Writers USA, invited students to write suspenseful mini sagas in 100 words or less. This exciting challenge encouraged students to explore storytelling, sharpen their writing skills, and experience the thrill of seeing their names in print.

Over 80 CCTC students submitted their stories, and many were selected to be published in Fright Club—Creepy Capers, a professionally printed anthology set for release on April 7, 2025. Thus, our students will officially be published authors!

Honoring Our Talented Writers

Each student whose story was selected received a certificate and a bookmark, recognizing their dedication and creativity. Their stories were filled with suspense, horror, and thrilling twists that captivated the judges.

Mrs. Bowman was vital in guiding students through the writing process, helping them brainstorm, refine their ideas, and bring their terrifying tales to life. Her encouragement and expertise helped students gain confidence in their storytelling abilities.

What Comes Next?

Before the final publication, students whose stories were selected must obtain parental permission to include their work in the book. The deadline for submission is January 26, 2025.

CCTC will receive a complimentary copy of the book, and families can purchase additional copies. The best entries from all participating schools will be considered for the Young Writers Award of Excellence, and the top 10 students nationwide will win a $50 Amazon gift card!

A Celebration of Success

They received certificates to honor our talented students, share their writing journey, and celebrate their incredible accomplishments. More details will be shared soon, so stay tuned!

We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated in this competition. Your hard work, imagination, and storytelling skills have shined through, and we can't wait to see your names in print!
