Permanent SR 243 Closure & Detour Guide for CCTC Main Campus

Beginning April 6, 2026, State Route 243 will be permanently closed between CR 118 (Bent Creek Road) and CR 32 (Eaton Road).

  • Commuters from Coal Grove / Deering: Access to the CCTC Main Campus from the West (Coal Grove/Deering direction) remains unaffected. Drivers from this direction may continue to use SR 243 as normal.
  • Commuters from Proctorville / Chesapeake / Huntington: Drivers approaching from the East or South must utilize the following detour routes to reach the Main Campus. Please allow additional time for travel.

Recommended Detour Routes to CCTC Main Campus

From West Huntington Bridge (17th St.):

  • Exit at Chesapeake; Right on Pemberton; Left on 3rd Ave.

  • Left on Big Branch Rd (4.5 mi) → Right on Rankins Creek Rd.

  • Follow Getaway-Big Branch Rd to SR 243 W; Turn Left to CCTC.

From 6th Street Bridge (Huntington):

  • OH-527 N to Left on 3rd Ave.

  • Right on Big Branch Rd (4.5 mi) → Right on Rankins Creek Rd.

  • Follow Getaway-Big Branch Rd to SR 243 W; Turn Left to CCTC.

From East Huntington Bridge (31st St.):

  • OH-7 S (2.6 mi) → Right on Eaton Rd (CR 32).

  • Follow Eaton Rd (2.2 mi) to SR 243 W; Turn Left to CCTC.

From SR 775 (Proctorville):

  • SR 775 N (4.9 mi) → Left on Slate Run Rd.

  • Follow Slate Run to McKinney Creek Rd to Coffee Creek Rd.

  • Continue to SR 243 W; Turn Right to CCTC.


Additional Area Impacts

  • CR 68 (Shafertown Rd): Closed indefinitely between Eaton Rd and SR 243.

  • CR 69 (Indian Guyan Rd): Closed at Greasy Ridge intersection Weekdays (6:30 AM – 6:00 PM).
